"I took your honest and sincere advice and purchased the silver model for use with my desktop replacement laptop system at home with external keyboard and external mouse and connections to a nearby scanner and printer. It is simply perfect! Sturdy and well made is the main thing--hefty diameter aluminum and generously thick aluminum panels, good welds (and lots of them) at key points, accurate suspension cabling with legs at a very stable angle--all very important points with a 10-pound, $2,800 Dell Inspiron computer to support. Given the superbly chosen materials and the hand welding and cabling, I think it is worth the asking price. The computer ends up at just the right height to forestall neck pain (display screen straight ahead). One nice thing you may not realize--the curved legs (suitable for couches, etc.) touch the desk at just four smooth points, allowing the whole system to be skated around (and back out of the way) easily on a desk. This is a delightful result I hadn't thought about when I studied your package illustrations... In summary, beautifully designed with excellent materials and accurate, solid construction! No doubt very useful for many situations but perhaps best of all on the desk, where it keeps the computer cool and well up out of the way, allowing it to be moved about as needed on the desk and ready for work at the proper height." -- Ronald S.
"After seeing the Dexia laptop rack mentioned here [PC Magazine], I checked out the website and bought one. It's great. The design is simple and attractive, yet sturdy and practical. My favorite feature is the ability to place my keyboard underneath the stand. This accomplishes two things: 1) it creates more room on my desk, and 2) it brings my laptop monitor about a foot closer so it's easier to see. Finally, because it's light and collapses to a small size, it's easy to slip into my laptop bag for travel. My Dad likes it so much I'm ordering one for him as well." -Mattaroni

"Just a quick note to tell you that the laptop holder did arrive while I was still in Philadelphia and I'm very pleased with it. Keep up the good work!" --Emily A.
"So far I like the rack. It's at the right height so I don't get back aches from sitting at the computer too long. I like how the rack doesn't block any connections or the CD drive. In general, the rack is pretty useful since I almost always use my laptop like a desktop. I can't think of any complaints." -- Terri Y.

"Oh my, oh my! Just picked up my Dexia Rack from the UConn Co-op Bookstore... it is the niftiest laptop stand I've ever seen, and the most versatile. I do a lot of computing in a big leather chair, on the couch, in bed, and this is just the ticket for my needs, with both a Titanium PowerBook and the new 12" PB. Because I am so impressed, I'd like to mention this product online... I think more people should know about the Rack. -- Best, Doffie R."
"This was the only stand I found which accomplished the simple task of raising the laptop to an acceptable level (while keeping it flat) and providing space directly underneath it for a keyboard. I checked out the iCurve, and while it's artsy looking, I didn't like it -- especially because it bounces around (wobbles) with the slightest bit of motion, and doesn't quite have wide open space underneath it. (And I don't want my laptop slanted at all.) The Macally "ICE Station" was definitely not acceptable, as I question whether it's healthy to always operate a laptop at a major slant like that, and it would also make my Titanium PowerBook's front-loading DVD-ROM slot unusable without removing the laptop from the stand each time. The Lapvantage "Dome" stand had potential but it was hard to tell how much space I'd really have for a keyboard in front -- I am adamant about having the keyboard directly under the laptop, not in front of it -- judging by the pictures, the tray didn't seem to slant forward enough to give me a sense of having the keyboard _under_ the laptop. Plus it's a big clunky dome on the desk and I'd find it unsightly -- and it wouldn't be portable for travel either. Dexia Rack was the only one I saw which accomplished exactly what I wanted -- simply raising the laptop while keeping a wide open space underneath for the keyboard and also allowing good ventilation. Plus there's the option to use the Dexia Rack stand in other ways, like on couches or in a bed -- even though that's not what I'm buying it for, it's nice to have that option. Plus it's so compact and easy to travel with. I was happy to find this stand and happy to buy it." -- Joel B.
"I just purchased the Dexia Rack Laptop Stand ($49.95) and I absolutely love it! It's lightweight and folds up thin enough to carry around with you. I spend a lot of time on my bed typing away and this has made my life so much better. I can sit on my bed crossed leg and place the stand under me quite comfortably. The rack has an open mid section which allows the laptop heat to vent out thus leaving your legs or lap heat free. I ended up buying a factory seconds stand because it is a little cheaper than a new one. The flaws on it are extremely minimal and can barely be seen. And as they state the product functions just fine - it's just cosmetic flaws. I figured if I bought a new one I'd end up beating up a little anyhow. If you're looking to buy a light, portable and affordable laptop stand I highly recommend buying this stand." -- Pinrat
Hi Bob, Oh, please tell me (& the world) that the next generation model is due out soon ... I read about your product in Charles Moore's excellent Road Warrior "Laptop Stand Roundup" column from 2004 [see review] and concluded that the Dexia is the best thing out there for functionality, price, and design. Please send any word on the future of Dexia and my neck, shoulders, eyes and wrists will be eternally grateful. Thanks and best wishes for ongoing development work." --Kate O.
"Hey Bob, Just wanted to let you know that I'm in the second week of my Dexia rack, and it's working perfectly! Thanks for all your help in shipping it to me. Hope you have a Happy New Year!" -- Cliff R.

"The Dexia Rack has interested me ever since I encountered it at the Stanford campus computer store; it appears at once more sturdy and more portable than any of its more widely publicized competitors... I wish you the best of luck in expanding the sales of this excellent product." -- Ingbert F.
"I have long been using my PowerBook 12 Inch as a desktop computer, with external screen and keyboard. I had it elevated slightly from the desktop with a couple of pens, but I still did not like how hot it got after heavy use. So I put my Dexia Rack under it. It looks better, and the machine does not run anywhere near as hot. A remarkable difference." Yours, -- Eolake S.
"I received my Dexia Rack today. My quick take on it is: I love it! Unfortunately... so does my Dad. I had the rack shipped to my job, and then I met my parents for dinner after work. During my visit, I demonstrated the rack for my Dad, who for the past two years has had his iBook elevated on a large block of wood. The rack is the same height as his custom-made stand, and provides him with a lot more desk space since he's able to place his keyboard underneath the rack. Also, my Dad just celebrated his 73rd Birthday, so he appreciates having the monitor a foot closer to his eyes. Yes: he took my Dexia Rack! Since you're interested in feedback, here are some more comments on your product: 1) The rack is light and collapses to a nice compact size, making it easy to take along in my laptop bag. 2) Erected, it stands at a nice height. (Of course, it would be great if it were height-adjustable -- but you can't have everything.) 3) You're right: the feet on my Dad's iBook are a little slippery. Thus the four little rubber feet that you included in the packaging were used and appreciated. The text instructions don't indicate that they're included, but hopefully customers realize that they're there and what to do with them. 4) My Dad and I were actually more concerned about the feet of the rack sliding around his desk than the laptop sliding around the rack. The instructions mention "Rack Boots"; I'm wondering if they would help the rack from sliding around his desk? Also, the instructions mention that customers can request these Rack Boots, but I don't recall reading that option when I ordered the Rack. ... [Sorry, we've discontinued the Rack Boots.] 5) My favorite feature is undoubtedly the Rack's ability to accomodate a full-size keyboard underneath. Even before I started shopping for a stand, this is what I envisioned. After shopping many websites and a few retail stores, I couldn't find a single stand that had this design -- until I came across your product on PC Magazine's website. The simplicity of the design is brilliant. 6) The aesthetics of the Rack are great: simple and modern. [I know I ordered a "scratched" unit, but I couldn't detect any marring.] 7) fyi, before I purchased the Dexia Rack I had purchased a Kensington laptop stand with a USB docking station along with my Dell Inspiron 6000. ... It was too cumbersome and I felt that it didn't allow my laptop enough room to breathe. As soon as I ordered your Rack, I returned it. ... All in all, I think you have a great product Bob. I had to search pretty hard to find it though, so I'm wondering how many other people would buy your product if they knew about it. Since my Dad stole my unit, I will try to place an order for another one before the weekend. ... Thanks for designing a great product and I hope you receive your patent!" -Matthew K. |
